(Remember, the ROMs folder is created after the first time you open FinalBurn Alpha.) Move your arcade ROMs into FinalBurn Alpha's ROMs folder.
Before we do anything, I must first inform you to never extract or rename the zip file of an arcade ROM! The exact filename is how FinalBurn Alpha detects it.You must never rename or extract an arcade ROM! Its exact filename is how FinalBurn Alpha can detect it. You'll notice that all arcade ROMs are abbreviated.
If you want to play an orphan of a game, you need to download both the orphan ROM and the parent ROM.If you want to play the parent of a game, you need to download the parent ROM.This is how all arcade emulators work with arcade ROMs. In the picture below, I'm showing you how this parent/orphan relationship applies to actual ROMs in the roms folder. All the games listed under it are the orphans. The first game at the top of the list is the parent ROM. This list is all the games that FinalBurn Alpha supports. Under “ Select Game” you'll see a really long list of games: Go to Game > Load game, and click Show unavailable - as shown to the right. I want you to open up FinalBurn Alpha's ROM list for this explanation. However, you should first read the sections below about ROM structures.Īrcade emulation works differently than the emulation of other video game systems. I explain this process in the section about loading games. Next, you need to have FinalBurn Alpha scan the roms folder. Place all your arcade ROMs in the roms folder. When you close FinalBurn Alpha after first opening it, you'll see all the new folders and the ROMs folder. It will also try scanning for new ROMs, but you can cancel that. In the initial opening, you'll be prompted with a couple screens. FinalBurn Alpha will automatically generate all the necessary folders after the first time you open it. What you need to do is open FinalBurn Alpha - double-click on, or if you have 32-bit Windows. Has anybody else run into this with FBA? Thanks. There's a detail in FinalBurn Alpha's installation that can be confusing: where do you put the ROMs? This is confusing because when you first extract FinalBurn Alpha from its zip file, you'll see a folder like toward the right with four files and no sub folders (particularly, no roms folder). I have also googled it and can't seem to find an answer. I set it to 4:3 forced aspect and it doesn't change anything for pifba but it does seem to change the settings for lr-fbneo (which unfortunately doesn't work with all of my roms, ie.
I have also tried the retroarch config files in the configuration editor for FBA. The image either stays the same or it over res for my monitor. I have tried the command menu configurations and changing the resolution doesn't seem to help. So the image is 'skinnier' by about 2" compared to running it in MAME. For a vertical game like Donpachi it displays vertically as it should but the image is squished a bit horizontally.
The image is squished about 1.75" overall for every game.įor example a game like Progear has roughly. However there is a slight letterboxing going on with FBA compared to MAME. I have the roms running and controls working fine. I am trying to get Final Burn Alpha configured since it seems to run a few of the shmups I like a bit better. They fill the screen as they should and what not. All of my game resolutions/images in MAME look great. Background, I am running a Raspberry 3b+ into a Makvision 2929D arcade monitor in my candy cab.
